Hunting and fishing tourism in Bulgaria has a long tradition, governed by law from the 19th century onwards.
Numerous forest and hunting farms and reserves are taking care for the game population.
The animal population includes red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar, mouflon, chamois, capercaillie, bear, pheasant, and partridge.
The fishing tourism in Bulgaria is generally divided info fresh water and salt water fishing. Many breeding ponds are stocking and rivers are planting the lakes in Bulgaria with fish. The Black Sea offers unique opportunities to fishing for turbot, mullet, bluefish, cod, mackerel, bonito and others, and Bulgaria’s rivers also abound in fish. The country’s many dams also afford excellent opportunities for sport fishing.
About 3000 foreign hunters, most of which regular visitors, come to Bulgaria every year to test their breech sight. More than 110 hunting residences, huts, hostels and shelters offer accommodation to the lovers of hunting and fishing. The forestry farms provide a wonderful atmosphere for business meetings, family tourism and horse tourism. Along with that, there are opportunities for eco-tourism and photo-hunting, as well as visits to natural and historical sites in the surrounding areas.
